RETURN TO STEWART
Visit the actual filming location of THE THING in
2009.
August 2009: 1982 to 2009: 27 Years!!!
Watch THE THING on the big screen on Saturday afternoon and stand
at the location of Outpost #31 48 hours later!!

During the month of August, 2003, two THE THING fanatics took a
"pilgrimage" of sorts to Stewart, British Columbia,
Canada and Hyder, Alaska, U.S.A. in order to see the
filming location of THE THING. Todd and SPC had such
an incredible experience, they decided to do it
again in 2009, but this time they're taking a few
more of us. It's a return to Stewart, but the first
time for me. It's going to be incredible, and you
are more than welcome to enjoy the adventure.
Read about the 2003 trip
here.
In August of 2009 for the film's 27th Anniversary, a group of fans
plan to travel North to Stewart, British Columbia,
CANADA returning to the remote filming location of
THE THING. This trip will take place the first week
in August following the THING-FEST 2009 Weekend in
London, Ontario. Following TF9 fans will depart
Monday morning from Toronto International Airport to
Vancouver, British Columbia. From there catching
another flight north to the small city of Terrace,
then a 3 hour drive to Stewart. After a total of
about 15 hours travel time we will arrive in Stewart
and check into the Sealaska Inn in Hyder. We will
spend 2-3 days up there, visiting "the site" (aka
Outpost #31 Ground Zero) about 45 mins. north of
town and exploring the scattered and burned ruins of
the camp, including large existing remains of the
Norwegian helicopter. After traveling back to
Vancouver we plan to spend a few days checking out
the city and partying before everyone departs
homeward bound.

going on this adventure are:

Expenses:
The main question regarding this trip is finances.
How much is it going to cost? That depends where you
are starting from. Most of us plan to leave from
Toronto following the THING-FEST 2009 Weekend.
Depending on whether you attend the TF9 event you
may or may not have as far to go... Regardless this
is what you WILL NEED:
-Airfare to Vancouver, B.C., Canada
-Airfare to Terrace, B.C.
-Vehicle rental in Terrace for 2-3 days (we plan to
all go in together on 2-3 vehicles)
-2 nights accommodations at Sealaska Inn in Hyder,
Alaska
-Return airfare from Terrace to Vancouver
-Airfare from Vancouver back home
-Food, drink, misc. expenses, traveling cash, etc.
for the duration of your trip
NOTE: If you are traveling from within Canada you
will need proper ID to enter the UNITED STATES at
Hyder, Alaska to get up to the filming location
site. The Outpost #31 site itself lies in B.C. on
Canadian soil but it is only accessible by traveling
through Alaska first.
Anyone and everyone is welcome in joining us on this
adventure up to the remote and stunningly beautiful
filming location of THE THING in northern British
Columbia, Canada. For more information, or to sign
